Autism and vitamin D

I was just talking with my co-worker the other day about vitamin D deficiency as a health problem and then I saw this article last week. It’s entitled “What If Vitamin D Deficiency Is a Cause of Autism” by Gabrielle Glaser at Scientific American. These days there seems to be a lot of research going on with autism. As Martha would say, “it’s a good thing“.

A new book I have been hearing about lately (and just requested from my local library) is “Horse Boy: A Father’s Quest to Heal His Son” by Rupert Isaacson. There is also a link on the ASA’s most recent newsletter. Check it out.

Looking ahead

While I was doing that display last week, I also came across this article which talks about the future for anyone with autism or living with autism. It’s entitled “Autistic and Overlook” by Linda H. Davis at the Washington Post.

As I was looking for the link to this article just now, I came across a follow up to it one year later by the same author. It’s called “Still Overlooking Autistic Adults“.

Day to day living

Here’s an article from the New York Times entitled “A Roller Coaster to Acceptance of a Son’s Autism” byAnnie Lubliner Lehman. I think it’s a good example of how autism affects one’s day to day living.

Also, I hope everyone had a good World Autism Awareness Day last Friday. I did a display on the holiday where I work. It’s always good to educate others when you have a chance. I also got a book for our display that I found from one of the autism groups online entitled “Autism Heroes” by Barbara Firestone. It looks good.

We’re back

Here are two articles that I came across just in the last couple of days that looked very interesting.

First is the article “Autism Immerses 2-year olds in a Synchronized World” over at Science News by Bruce Bower. It’s nice to see what seems like more research being done on Autism.

The second article, “Are Vinyl Floors Poisoning Our Children, Leading to Autism” by Marla Cone at the Environmental Health News via Green Change, was also very interesting in regards to research on the possible causes of Autism.
